Dr. Elizabeth Hartwell is the Chief Medical Officer at Gulf Coast Blood in Houston TX, where she provides medical guidance and direction for the overall organization, including donor selection and care, blood collection activities, disease notification, transfusion service activities, and clinical consultations. At Gulf Coast Blood, she was instrumental in development of the cellular therapy collection program and remains an integral part of this core unit. Dr. Hartwell is board certified in both Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.
Currently holding the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Hartwell mentors medical students and pathology residents and fellows. She has previously held academic positions at several hospitals in the Texas Medical Center, where she gained invaluable experience working in complex hospital settings as well as in a large community blood center. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters and has served as the Primary Investigator for various research studies.
