Christine Lomas-Francis, MSc, FIBMS was the Technical Director of the Laboratory of Immunohematology and Genomics at the New York Blood Center, a position she held for 20 years. There she was involved in the resolution of many complex antibody investigations and discoveries of new blood group antigens. Currently she is Scientist Emeritus at the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute (LFKRI) of New York Blood Center Enterprises. She became fascinated with the complexities of the Rh blood group system, and while Rh remains her main passion, she enjoys the intricacies of the 46 other blood group systems and sharing the knowledge with others.
Christine is a member of the AABB and the International Society of Blood Transfusion and serves on the ISBT working parties for Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology and that for Rare Donors, of which she is the past chairperson.
She has coauthored 3 editions of the Blood Group Antigen FactsBook, and many peer reviewed publications and book chapters. She is a technical editor for Immunohematology, The Journal of Blood Group Serology and Molecular Genetics and has reviewed for several journals. She has been recognized with several awards including the Ivor Dunsford and the Sally Frank awards from the AABB and from the International Society of Blood Transfusion, the ISBT award.
