A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Richard Kaufman received his M.D. from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He trained in clinical pathology and transfusion medicine at Washington University. Dr. Kaufman served for more than 20 years as medical director of the Transfusion Service at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is now a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Dr. Kaufman has pursued a variety of clinical research interests in the field of transfusion medicine. He previously served as Chair of the U.S. Blood Products Advisory Committee. He is a Scientific Member of the BEST Collaborative, and he serves as Editor-in-Chief of Transfusion.
