Dr. Marie Holowaychuk is a board-certified emergency and critical care specialist with a strong background in veterinary transfusion medicine. She is the co-editor of the Manual of Veterinary Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking and serves on the advisory board for the Canadian Animal Blood Bank. She previously held a leadership role with the Association of Veterinary Hematology and Transfusion Medicine.
Marie completed her veterinary degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by advanced training in the United States. She spent five years on faculty at the Ontario Veterinary College before transitioning to private practice, consulting, and education. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles and multiple textbook chapters, contributing significantly to the fields of transfusion medicine, critical care, and veterinary wellbeing.
Marie is also the author of A Compassionate Calling: What It Really Means to Be a Veterinarian, set to be published in Summer 2025. In addition to her work in transfusion medicine, she is a passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing in veterinary medicine, delivering lectures, workshops, and coaching programs worldwide.
