A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. George attended Immaculata University, near Philadelphia, majoring in Biology/Chemistry, followed by medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency, as well as Hematopathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellowships, all at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She is boarded in all 4 specialties by the American Board of Pathology. Dr. George has served as the Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine at Pennsylvania State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center since 2010. In this role, she is responsible for a large and complex transfusion medicine service in a healthcare system that covers all ages, a busy trauma service, and active hematology-oncology service including bone marrow transplant.
Dr. George is also heavily invested in education, having served continuously as either Program Director or Associate Program Director for the pathology residency since 2012. Giving back to the profession through peer review and service on editorial boards is a key part of her professional philosophy and she provides a yearly workshop for her trainees on this subject. She serves as an ad hoc reviewer and on editorial boards for several journals and continuing medical education activities. She also serves as the Associate Dean for Continuing Education at Penn State University College of Medicine, a role she has held since 2021.
